Past Life Regression

I regularly receive calls from potential clients enquiring about regression.  Many of the callers would like to make an appointment, but are hesitant because they aren't really sure what to expect.  So, in order to demystify the whole matter I have added this page and dedicated it to regression.  I do hope that you find the answers to at least some of your questions and that this assists in putting your mind at rest ahead of booking a session.  More details will be added as time allows.

To begin, the client must be hypnotised; hypnotism being something you can read about in more detail by browsing the main pages of the website. As explained on the main website, hypnosis is a completely natural and perfectly safe process. Once hypnosis is induced, a client is requested to begin allowing their thoughts to drift and wander back through time, allowing any memories that may become the focus of their attention to be viewed with care & clarity.
Some clients seem able to more rapidly regress back to earlier times, either in their present life, or beyond; other clients drift back much more gradually, perhaps observing the memories of many different events.
During hypnosis, each client responds in a totally individual manner.  There really is no 'right or wrong' way.

Here at A Mind To Change I choose to describe 'Past Life Regression' in the following manner:

1. Past Life Regression - this is when a hypnosed client travels back in time by way of their thoughts and memories; back through the past of this life time - from the present day to conception - looking for memories from this period that have been stored within their subconscious mind.
This method is regularly used in hypnotherapy as a way of locating long since buried subconscious memories that may be having a negative effect on a clients present life.  This type of approach is often referred to as 'Regresion to Cause'.

2. Interlife Regression - this being where the client drifts back to look for memories which they understand, or believe to be of a period between the beginning of this existance and the end of a previous existance

3. Previous Life Regression - where the client drifts back looking for memories which they understand, or believe to be of a previous existance.

Clearly, this is just my own preferred way of viewing the matter.
If you prefer, you can use the term 'Past Life Regression' to refer to all three.

There is much varying opinion as to whether past life regression is fact or fiction, whether it's worthwhile, or of any real benefit.  I personally believe that regression therapy is worthwhile and ethically correct should it help a client, even in a small way, to move forward in his/her present life.  Regardless of whether regressive memories are based in fact or simply a figment of the imagination, if they assist a client in gaining a clearer understanding of him/herself, then surely this must be viewed as a positive.

Regression Therapy / Past Life Regression carried out at A Mind To Change is conducted based upon the following guidelines:

1. In order for regression to be ethical I insist that a client has a reason for regression other than for purely interest, or entertainment value.  Often the fact that you spend so much time wondering, for whatever reason, about whether you have lived before, may well be a strong enough reason for you to be accepted, based upon the fact that the time you spend dwelling upon the matter could very well be adversely affecting your present functioning.

2. Each new client session begins with a period of two-way discussion, allowing time for all aspects of hypnosis to be clearly and fully explained, and for you to ask as many questions as you wish.

3.  At all times during regression you will be 'guided' and not 'led'.  Carefully constructed 'clean language' will ensure that your own memories do not become mixed with spurious suggestions made by the therapist during trance.
This will ensure that any recalled memories are entirely the product of your own mental processes.

4. All regression hypnotherapy sessions will include guideance for the construction of a mental safety-net, or 'safe haven' which will fully enable you to transfer your thoughts to a place of inner peace and relaxation immediately, should during regression you encounter any memories which you feel uncomfortable with.

Various theories relating to Past Life Regression*

REINCARNATION - One school of thought is that we each return to this world over and over again, in order to experience, learn and evolve.

GENETIC MEMORY - This theory suggests that the human memory is passed down from one generation to the next by way of the deoxyribonucleic acid, or DNA (cell structure).  However, this theory does not explain why some people regress back to many different cultural backgrounds.

A VIVID IMAGINATION? - Perhaps we just make it all up? Of course, everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion.  However, over the years there are many individual cases that can be documented through historical research, which can prove the accuracy of the information, far beyond the chances of random imagination.

SOUL MEMORY - This theory embraces the idea that an individual can access the memory of another soul by way of the 'Akashic' records - the spiritual record of everything that has ever happened.  To some people this theory is quite acceptable, but it cannot account for the continuance of character traits which would appear to pass from one life to the next.
