Practitioner Profile

My name is Howard A. Stanyon and I am a professionally trained, qualified, registered, counsellor and hypnotherapist. I operate my own counselling and hypnotherapy practice based near Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, U.K.

Throughout my time in private practice I have worked in many settings, with individuals of all ages and from all backgrounds. My chosen form of counselling, Person-Centred, was developed by Carl Rogers and is based on the principle that we are all capable of finding answers to relevant questions, should suitable conditions and appropriate ingredients be available.

My aim, throughout sessions of counselling, is to provide 'tools' and conditions that can make it easier for you to find answers to issues you are facing. However, it's important to fully accept that a counsellor cannot solve your problems. The role of a counsellor is simply to assist you throughout your own journey of self-discovery.

I am a mature practitioner and hold a Diploma in Counselling (DIP COUNS) awarded by the
Open College (OC) and accredited by the Sherwood Foundation Therapist Register (SFTR) having achieved a 100% distinction. I am registered as a counsellor in the United Kingdom (CCC-REG COUNS No. 5758) and am a full member of the Alliance of Philosophical Counsellors' (MAPC).

In addition to my counselling qualifications, I also hold a Diploma in Hypnotherapy (DHP) awarded by the Cambridge College of Hypnotherapy (NSHAP) and the nationally accredited and externally awarded hypnotherapy diploma, known as the H.P.D. The awarding body (NCFE) operates throughout the U.K, offering qualifications up to, and including, level 4. The HPD diploma is awarded jointly by the NCFE and the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH). Therapists with the HPD have qualifications that meet the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Hypnotherapy. By comparison, the HPD is the same level as a Level 4 NVQ, BTEC Professional Diploma, or a university Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE). The National Occupational Standard units have been correlated against the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF) by Skills for Health.

I am a full member of the Hypnotherapy Practitioners Association (MHPA), a full member of the Hypnotherapy Association (MHA) and a licentiate member of the Hypnotherapy Society (LHS).
I am a registered member of the U.K Hypnotherapy Register (UKHR) and my practice has a National Health Service provider number (2260206).

As part of my commitment to ongoing professional development, I continually seek additional Counselling, NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and Psychology training, through approved U.K. learning establishments.

I adhere to a strict code of conduct and ethics as directed by the C.C.C and H.A.
